This vintage has been pretty much one of a kind with little scope to compare with what has happened in the past.
We started with a cool Spring and then went into the hottest summer on record – in February we recorded 35.2 C in our home vineyard with 15 days over 30 C. To add a little excitement we also had the biggest dump of rain over a 24 hour period which was too much for our home weather station to handle. But we recorded 150mm at the winery and another rain monitoring site close to home went over 300mm!
To finish, we have had a near perfect April with long periods of sun and light winds to finish off ripening and keep the grapes healthy. There’s just the Syrah and Petit Verdot to pick now – scheduled for Monday – maybe later if the weather holds!
