Partnerships in Preservation

Working and living in harmony with our environment is a goal shared by many of our fans, friends, suppliers and customers.

Collectively, environmentally responsible businesses can provide a role model for others to tread a similar path; we can also learn from each other as we all strive to do better.

We are proud to be directly associated with a number of partners who share our commitment to the environment. We work with them, support and promote them whenever possible. We encourage those who know and enjoy our wines to support these partners as well and help build awareness and expectations that today’s businesses should value the environment.

Zealandia is a wild-life sanctuary experience just 10 minutes from central Wellington.

A unique eco-attraction, Zealandia brings New Zealand’s incredible natural history and  world-renowned conservation movement to life with a state-of-the-art indoor exhibition. Outdoors, a predator-proof fence preserves a beautiful 225ha (550 acre) eco-sanctuary offering the opportunity to see some of New Zealand’s rarest birds, reptiles and insects in the wild.

The perfect location to unwind or recharge the batteries after your Zealandia visit is the Rata Café. The views across the lower lake make this one of the best spots in the city to enjoy a leisurely lunch!

Of course, environmental sustainability is a strong theme in the Café from use of free-range, organic, seasonal produce to support for Fair Trade products. The Rata’s wine list reinforces the sustainability message by featuring Brightside wines by the glass and a good selection of Kaimira Estate varietals.

Melrose House

Melrose Historic House is one of the last surviving “grand” homes of Nelson. Built circa 1879, Melrose demonstrates the grandeur which characterised houses of that era. Surrounded by beautiful gardens and historic trees, today Melrose is a unique event venue being brought back to life largely through donations and the efforts of volunteers. Inside the House, Melrose Cafe complements its surroundings perfectly with elegant breakfast, lunch, morning and afternoon tea menus served on delicate china.

The vision for Melrose House is that cultural heritage is preserved and enhanced, contributing to a rich and prosperous future for the Nelson Tasman community and its visitors.

Kaimira Estate is proud to support Melrose House by providing wine for events and fundraisers.

The Tasman Great Taste Cycle Trail

Part of the grand New Zealand Cycle Trail vision, we are thrilled that the Tasman Great Taste Trail is now fully connected from the centre of Nelson, right around the Waimea Estuary and across Rabbit Island to Mapua. An additional part of the Trail takes cyclists from Richmond to Brightwater through lovely rural countryside with two river crossings. An easy alternate route back to Richmond along the Waimea Walk/Cycle Way skirts the boundary of our Livingston Road vineyards. Once you have passed the horse paddock (they help produce our special manure!), the tasting room is mere metres away!

There is a growing number of original artworks around our winery; one taking shape at present is definately inspired by both bicycle and grape!

Kaimira winery is very proud to be an Official Partner of the Tasman Great Taste Cycle Trail. We welcome cyclists with free wine tasting,  10% discount on cellar door prices, AND free delivery of wine back home in New Zealand (minimum purchase 6 bottles).

Wine, with its rich history, plays a significant part in our culture when we are socializing with friends and neighbours, networking with colleagues, eating at home or dining out, celebrating successes, or marking special occasions.

Kaimira Estate takes opportunities to support and promote a wide range of businesses, organisations and events that enable wine to be incorporated responsibly into everyday life and leisure.

Nelson-Marlborough Institute of Technology School of Hospitality and Wellbeing

The hospitality industry is a vital sector of Nelson’s economy – as a regional speciality, quality wine production attracts visitors and creates jobs. Restaurant and bar staff are in the forefront of presenting Neslon food and wine to visitors and locals.

Kaimira Estate was an inaugural sponsor of the new NMIT School of Hospitality and Wellbeing under a three-year arrangement. This facility includes a state-of-the-art commercial kitchen and associated restaurant (open to the public) for chef and bar service training. We are continuing to work with Restaurant/ Wine Service tutors by taking student sessions in basic winemaking and in wine and food matching.

Fairfax Media Business Hall of Fame

Established in 1994 by the Young Enterprise Trust, the Fairfax Media New Zealand Business Hall of Fame recognises and celebrates individuals who, through enterprise, have made a significant contribution to the economic and social development of New Zealand.

Laureates are admitted to the Hall of Fame by the Governor-General at an annual black-tie gala dinner. Each Laureate has a story of enterprise, hard work and success. Most have contributed generously to their communities.

Kaimira Estate endorses the celebration of enterprise and the encouragement of enterprise in young people. We are proud to have a major sponsor partnership with the Business Hall of Fame Gala Dinner dating back 7 years.
