We have secured our first customer in Eastern Europe! Both Kaimira Estate and Brightside wines – Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling and Pinot Noir – are off out of the warehouse on their journey to Poland. On arrival, they will meet new fans via a specialist organic wine website. Thanks to Rafal Tymcik for his energy and enthusiasm in championing “Down Under” wines in Poland!
A really important post-vintage job is composting the marc and grape stalks for return to the vineyard later in the year.
The steam is from the marc – already breaking down!
We are stoked to have been awarded a GOLD MEDAL for our 2015 Kaimira Sauvignon Blanc in the New Zealand Organic Wine Awards, judged during May 2016. This competition is aimed squarely at you – the wine consumer – in order to help you identify and select a quality certified organic wine. Awards are decided by an independent panel of experts including chefs, wine retailers, organic specialists and a winemaker. So, you can choose our 2015 Kaimira Sauv Blanc, as well as any of the other awarded wines, with complete confidence. For a full list of medals awarded visit: http://organicwineawards.co.nz/2016-results/
We will be listing this wine on the website very soon.
During the 2015/16 summer season we were stoked to raise $389 to support the Ndunga Charren school in the Gambia. This was through sales of small items handcrafted by Nelson local Jennie Green. Coasters, sewing kits, aprons, crayon holders, fabric broaches, sketch pads, thread tidies, tissue holders and many more items made ideal gifts and souvenirs for our customers but also made a huge difference to children’s lives in an incredibly poor area of subsistence peanut farming.
Friday 6 May is International Sauv Blanc Day. To mark the occasion we will take 15% off all orders for Sauv Blanc placed through the website on the day.
There’s a choice of two – BOTH CERTIFIED ORGANIC. The 2014 Kaimira Estate (91/100) with its vibrant tropical fruit and juicy minerality; and the youthful 2015 Brightside (90/100) limey, herbacaceous and immensely likeable.
The Kaimira Sauv is just $14.45 and the Brightside is $11.90 – Friday 6 May only.
Happy Sauv Blanc Day!
This vintage has been pretty much one of a kind with little scope to compare with what has happened in the past.
We started with a cool Spring and then went into the hottest summer on record – in February we recorded 35.2 C in our home vineyard with 15 days over 30 C. To add a little excitement we also had the biggest dump of rain over a 24 hour period which was too much for our home weather station to handle. But we recorded 150mm at the winery and another rain monitoring site close to home went over 300mm!
To finish, we have had a near perfect April with long periods of sun and light winds to finish off ripening and keep the grapes healthy. There’s just the Syrah and Petit Verdot to pick now – scheduled for Monday – maybe later if the weather holds!
